Pictures Of The PS1 Emulator Downloads For The PSP - Thursday April 6
ps1 emulator for psp
We can't call these pics 100 percent legit, or even 57.5 percent legit, but we can call them what they claim to be: pics of the forthcoming PSone emulator download store for the PSP. According to the fairly convincing screenshots, games cost will $15 each -- which sounds steep, but not unreasonable -- and will even be able to do multiplayer via WiFi networking. Of course, there's still no word on when this will be actually available, and the pics are from a tipster's "friend" who works as a "designer at Sony" (yeah, haven't heard that one before), which doesn't lend a whole lot of cred, but we'll let the pics speak for themselves.

New eLoader Bock - Sunday April 2
umd
Haha Fanjita, thanks for scaring half of the PSP community to death. At least you came back bearing gifts!
Fanjita and Ditlew have just released a new version of their eLoader, a way to play homebrew on 2.0-2.6 firmwares. As always, they have chosen a beer name for it. This time the name is Bock.
This new edition of the eLoader may not be as tasty as Bock is, but it is definetly as useful. They have gotten WiFi to work on all firmwares! That means if you are a 2.0 user, you no longer need to use that nasty hack to get WiFi working, and if you are above 2.0, you can use all the WiFi homebrew for the first time!

Japanese PSP Ads Targeting Women - Saturday April 1

New Japanese ads for Sony's PSP seem to target a female audience. Titled "Good Morning, PSP" and Good Night, PSP" the ads feature a woman going through her normal morning and night routines, such as vacuuming and eating, all while taking advantage of the PSP's gaming and multimedia capabilities. No word on whether or not a similar campaign is planned for other regions.

New PSP Magazine Coming Out Including Playable UMD - Friday March 31

Future will begin publishing a bi-monthly PSP magazine next month, titled Official PSP Guidebook. It goes on sale April 27, and the magazine will feature a cover-mounted UMD disc containing playable demos of new PSP titles. Future is also the publisher of PlayStation World and PSM2. No pricing details have been released.

Walmart to stop Selling UMDs - Thursday March 30

More bad news for Sony's UMD format: after word last month that several studios were cutting back on UMD releases or dropping support for the format entirely, it now looks like the discs are about to lose coveted shelf space in America's largest retailer. According to reports, Wal-Mart is expected to stop selling UMDs, though the company has declined to comment on the rumors. Nevertheless, a spot-check of a Wal-Mart store by journos at the Hollywood Reporter found the discs to be in scant supply, with just a handful stacked haphazardly among the PSPs. Of course, this may not mean the end for the UMD format; Wal-Mart certainly isn't the only place to buy them. However, as it gets easier (and cheaper) to use tools like the Neuros Recorder to get flicks onto the PSP, the already meager demand for films on UMD is likely to continue to dwindle, further discouraging retailers and studios. But, hey, that means you should be able to pick up remaining inventory for next to nothing on eBay and from liquidators as stores race to clear out stock. That may not be good news for Sony, but it could be a short-term boon for video-hungry PSP owners.

SONY RELEASES $200 PSP PACKAGE - Tuesday March 28

Sony has released a new PlayStation Portable hardware package, including only the PSP, battery, and AC adapter. The new pack is in stores now at a price of $199. Sony announced last week that the pack would be available today, being sold along side the $249 Value Pack. This is not the first different PSP "pack" to be sold in the US — Sony sold the $299 Giga Pack during the last holiday season.
